It might be foolish of me to say this, but the litany of minor disappointments I’ve felt about Avengers just make me all the more excited for the sequel, when they’ll have to move beyond rehashing the basic plot points of Mark Millar’s first two Ultimates storyarcs. If they can keep Joss on board – there’s nobody working in Hollywood who understands these characters as well as he does, let alone can communicate that understanding to the audience properly – and free him up to do his thing a little more freely, I think we’ll have a heck of a movie on our hands.
Hope springs eternal, right?
